My research has used life-cycle assessment (LCA) as a tool for evaluating the sustainable redevelopment of brownfields, which are parcels of real estate where redevelopment is complicated by the actual or perceived presence of environmental contamination. Construction specifications and commuter transportation surveys were used to generate the data used to assess the “construction” and “use” life-cycle stages for each component of the redevelopment process. I am looking to continue using LCA to calculate the energy return-on-investments for renewable energy systems, and also to evaluate the life-cycle benefits of public transportation systems.
